Our 5 Step Process
1. Surface Preparation: Sandblasting & Epoxy Caulking
The process begins with precision sandblasting of the pool’s interior. This step removes all surface impurities, creating a clean, roughened texture that allows for maximum adhesion of the coatings to come. After sandblasting, we carefully caulk all seams and welds using high-performance epoxy, sealing any joints and reinforcing potential stress points. This ensures a smooth, continuous base and prevents water ingress at structural transitions.
2. Marine Epoxy Primer: The Protective Base Layer
Next, we apply a marine-grade epoxy primer over the entire pool, inside and out. This primer chemically bonds to the steel surface and provides a corrosion-resistant barrier. It’s specially formulated to perform in aquatic environments and ensures optimal bonding with the subsequent liner layers.
3. Dual-Coat Pure Polyurea: Ultimate Strength & Flexibility
Once the primer cures, we spray-apply two layers of pure polyurea. This industrial-grade liner material offers exceptional tensile strength, flexibility, and waterproofing capabilities. It forms a seamless, monolithic membrane that flexes with the structure while resisting impact, abrasion, and chemical exposure.
The dual-coat application doubles the protection and longevity of your pool, safeguarding against everything from harsh weather to daily wear and tear.
4. HP Urethane Clear Coat: A Durable, Designer Finish
To finish, we apply a high-performance (HP) urethane clear coat with a custom-colored finish. This layer not only provides a sleek, modern look but also adds UV protection, chemical resistance, and color stability. It’s the perfect combination of form and function, giving your Modpool its signature aesthetic while preserving the integrity of the liner beneath.
5. Holiday Finder Testing: Precision Quality Control
No Modpool liner is complete without undergoing multiple holiday tests, a critical quality assurance step. We use a low-voltage electric pulse to detect any micro-defects or “holidays”, tiny gaps in the coating invisible to the naked eye. If any are found, they are immediately repaired with epoxy to guarantee a flawless, watertight seal.
